Do Cellphones Cause Cancer

The current cellular (mobile) phones’ usage has crossed 1 billion in India and is still growing with frequent use of technology by younger generation. This has led to significant increase in the amount of time people spend on phones. Cell phones (including smartphones) give off a form of energy known as  radio frequency (RF) waves and thus concerns have been raised about the safety of cell phone use with respect to brain tumours.

How do cell phones work?

Mobiles work by sending signals to (and receiving them from) nearby cell towers (base stations) using RF waves. They don’t have enough energy to cause cancer by directly damaging the DNA cells.
