M&F: How is Coach Ditka feeling these days?
Mike Ditka: Relaxed. You can’t stop the aging process, but you can slow it down. I’ve had four hip replacements. I’ve had a shoulder done. But I work out every day. A lot of running in place in the water. A lot of stretching. I don’t know if it will add 10 years or five days, but I feel good.
Who’s the toughest guy you ever played against?
Ray Nitschke. He knocked me out in a game, and I played it out on my feet. I later knocked him out in another game. He was just tough and mean, and I have great respect for him.
Who’s the toughest guy in the NFL today?
J.J. Watt. He’s a more athletic [Dick] Butkus, which is a scary commodity.
