These crushed plants are edging out protein as the powders of the future. Here are five that go way beyond whey

Moringa

A serving of this smoothie scene-stealer packs a mix of protein, vitamins B6, C and A, iron and magnesium. According to a 2017 review of the peppery-tasting leaves of the tropical moringa tree, published in the journal Antioxidants, it may also be beneficial in several chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Downside: it also contains antinutrients, which can reduce protein and mineral absorption.

TRY IT: Mix ½ tsp with lemon zest, sea salt and olive oil, then drizzle on raw kale and bake for kicked-up veg chips.
