Ishvara

Klesha Karma Vipaka Asayaih Aparamrstah Purusavisesa Isvarah (Yoga Sutra 1.24)

Ishvara (the supreme power) is a special Purusha, unattached by misery, actions, their results and desires.

Here, for the first time, Patanjali introduces the idea of God. Here, we can differentiate the concept of the Vedas that God is the creator of universe, but Patanjali regards God as a special kind of being unattached by ignorance, not subject to Karmas or Samsakaras or the result of action. In Dr. Jayadeva's words, Yoga has taken a special position. Ishvara does exist in yoga, but Ishvara of yoga does not interfere, he is neither a creator, nor a destroyer nor does He maintain. He is Unique. He is special. His real purpose in the Sankhya Yoga scheme is to act as a model and through that help a sincere individual to spiritually evolve. Dr. Jayadeva further clarifies that God has no kleshas, no action, no desire, He is not connected to a particular Chitta.
