Wondering about the Vedantic view that this world is unreal, help was sought. “You need not see it as unreal. See it as a lower reality as against a higher reality,” was the answer. That helped. Yes, there was the world around that could be seen, heard, touched, tasted, and smelled, this leading to innumerable perceptions and impressions, out of which the mind fabricated ideas, knowledge, understanding, intentions, all usually accompanied by various feelings. And these thoughts and feelings would sooner or later lead to this or that kind of action, which, in turn, would cause reactions and repercussions of various kinds. And this was going on with each person everywhere functioning in the same way, except for great Yogis and other extraordinary beings. So that was the Lower Reality.
The Higher Reality must pertain to the consciousness of a mind freed of individual tendencies and impressions. So, the lower reality was shaped by all of humanity, mentally grasping – and thereby coloring and distorting – facts, and then more or less automatically producing thoughts and feelings around them, all of which would lead to ever new facts. And since these facts had their roots in much of mere imagination, they were in fact not really real. Unlike this, superiorly conscious minds could just passively reflect on whatever was there, which in very rare cases would evolve up to Pure Consciousness or Awareness. That settled the earlier wondering.
