When fried after soaking, it bestows strength and improves taste. Dry frying (heating in a pan without oil) aggravates Vata and can cause skin diseases. When prepared as a soup, it is debilitating. Steam cooking mitigates Pitta and Kapha. Freshly harvested (green) Chana (Harbhara) are soft, tasty, mitigate Kapha and pitta and are easy to digest according to Bhavaprakash.
