Flecked terrazzo. Laminex. Alessi’s ‘9093’ kettle. Glass bricks. Bold geometries. It’s as divisive as it is definable, but the 1980s was the clear reference point for the renovation of this Melbourne home. Designed by architects Cocks Carmichael in 1982, it’s one of the few residential projects the largely commercial firm undertook, and before its recent refurbishment the house was industrial and cold with grey walls and lots of stainless steel.
