Going easy on the air conditioning at night not only helps with your pockets, but also serves the environment.
ECO COOL
Air conditioning is a must for most when tucking in for the night; there is just something comforting about keeping yourself warm under a blanket in the cold, even if it sounds counterintuitive. That comfort comes at a cost however, one that is billed to you at the end of every month.
To reduce the impact of 6 to 8 hours of continuous cooling during the night, here are a few things you can try out.
KEEP IT ON AUTO
It is common for homeowners to leave the air conditioner in its coldest setting and adjust the fan speed, along with the temperature manually when it gets too cold. Why engage in the hassle, when most air conditioners come with an ‘Auto’ setting? Set it at your desired temperature and let the appliance do the temperature management for you. Most modern air conditioners are also most efficient in this setting, and can intelligently adjust themselves to get to the desired temperature with lower power consumption.
CONSTANT 26
With the air conditioner in auto mode, it may be tempting to set it at a lower temperature to keep the cool air blasting, but that will diminish energy efficiency. Instead keep it at 26˚C; it is a good point for the air conditioner to run at optimal performance levels, and keeps the room comfortable. You can go higher than 26˚C, but that may come at the expense of comfort and restfulness.
SET A TIMER
Stop waking up to an uncomfortably cold room in the morning by taking advantage of the timer feature on your air conditioner. Set it to turn off a few hours before you normally wake up so the room temperature can drop to a comfortable level when you rise for the day. It cuts down on the air conditioner’s running time and overall power consumption.
