The Best For Your Guests

As soft as silk

Q I’ve just finished renovating an apartment in Durban that I’d love to list on Airbnb. Some friends say I should buy polycotton duvet sets as these are more affordable to replace and easier to wash. Personally, I dislike polycotton, which makes me think guests might too. What would you suggest?

Gift Mazibuko, Senior Buyer Bed & Bath at @home, replies Creating a sanctuary in your guest suite not only ensures the soundest of slumbers for guests, but also gives them a cosy space in which to unwind.

With a luxurious softness and a silky sateen finish, cotton linen, such as our Egyptian cotton range, will last longer than any other fabric. Egyptian cotton is known for its strength and durability and is naturally lightweight with good breathability. Best of all, Egyptian cotton gets softer with every wash, ageing beautifully without pilling. Choose your inners with the same care: either buy an all-seasons inner with two layers that you can clip together for extra warmth in winter and unclip for a lighter cover in summer or invest in a lightweight inner for summer and a warm, comforting inner for winter.

For optimal comfort, replace duvet inners every 5–10 years – discolouration, flatness, cold spots and lumpiness are clear signs that it’s time. Pillow inners need to be replaced more regularly: every 2–4 years. You don’t want guests waking up with neck ache because their pillow has reached the end of its lifespan.
