I have read with great interest the series of articles that Doug Hewson has written about the modifications he found necessary to the Winson and Modelworks Britannia kits. Since I have wrestled with three kits from the same source, I could not resist the chance to put my two penn’orth in when our worthy Editor asked for comments as to whether they are a worthwhile exercise.
My conclusion is that they are worth considering, but you need to be prepared to carry out considerable modifications to kits from the above mentioned sources to get a satisfactory model. I would class myself as an experienced model engineer with some ten or so locomotives built and running but I am not sure how a raw beginner would cope with these kits.
