Lorraine and David’s home was just meant to be.
The couple were on the lookout for something out of town and a project in which they could both be involved. After several previous failed attempts at buying and selling they spotted this cottage by chance when driving past one day and from there on everything fell into place.
Lorraine explained: “We loved that the location was private but not isolated. Then we discovered the previous owners already had planning permission for an extension and what they had drawn up was pretty much exactly what we would have chosen ourselves. Our old house then sold before we even put it on the market so what could have been a very stressful time actually went very smoothy.
The extension to the rear and side allowed the couple to modernise the layout, moving the staircase from in the living room and creating a large open plan kitchen/sitting area with underfloor heating.
While renovating Lorraine and David wanted to keep the quaint cottage feel to the property and retain as many of the original features as possible. Where possible they kept the original doors and used reclaimed bricks and timber to give a lived-in feel to the extension and ensure it was in keeping with the rest of the house.
