Switching your oven on from an app on your smartphone before you leave the office or having coffee made to your preference the minute you wake up in the morning - these are no longer wishful futuristic thoughts; it's all happening now.

Innovative smart appliances are dominating the kitchen scene. Whether small or large, home appliances are being designed to maximise energy efficiency, making them convenient and easier to use while saving time.

Connected and Wi-Fi-enabled appliances are all the rage, says Miele South Africa's Jon Molyneaux. "Miele has gone to great lengths to ensure that when adding technology to its appliances it is not just for the gimmick of it, but to ensure real value to the end user."

All intelligent Miele domestic appliances can be networked conveniently and securely. Operation is simple - whether with the Miele app, voice control or through integration into existing smart home solutions. The appliances are networked via a home Wi-Fi router and the Miele cloud.

"With the Miele app, you can always keep track of your Miele appliances," Molyneaux says. "For example, would you like to keep an eye on the cooking process in the oven or find out whether the wash programme has finished? The app provides you with all the necessary information and is fast and convenient to operate. Moreover, the app also offers additional information and services for your Miele appliances, for example, the BaristaAssistant or recipes."
