Artist seema kohli’s home in new delhi is a replica of her colours on canvas, love for art and a mission to keep her roots alive.
An artist par excellence, Seema Kohli’s residence in Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi, is a perfect example of a dwelling, where creativity keeps flowing with the designers lending their creative touches to this space. Seema lives with her 31-year-old photographer daughter Anshika; 26-year-old son Svabhu, who is a visual communicator and their loving Labrador named Fido in a residence, spread across 125 sq. yards, which has four floors and a basement. Each space is defined in terms of colours, artworks, sculptures, artefacts, handicrafts, masks and much more.
The family loves to lend their creative touches, so they chose to build their kind of home from the very beginning thereby, keeping their roots intact. Seema shares, “My entire life has been revolving around Rajinder Nagar, as I was not just born here but also studied, married had kids, got divorced and still continue living here. When my parents came from Rawalpindi (now Pakistan), it was a refugee colony. So, I take great pride in my roots and this place gives me a sense of security, identity and a feel-good factor of being in this neighborhood. We wanted a spacious and an airy house and something, which can give my children a sense of what they can call their home, as they too at the end of the day have to come back to it. So, Svabhu who was in his school then, designed the house along with Anshika who helped him with the interiors. They were the catalyst and I was the basic provider and together, we carved out a domain, where each and every corner has a unique identity.”
