Make your child’s bedroom a magical space with fun decor details that’ll grow with them
ON SAFARI
Asked to create a safari-themed room for four-year-old Michael, Lynette McClintock of Red Poppies Interiors in Jo’burg designed it in such a way that he’ll enjoy it for years to come. Adding a contrast to the neutral grey base are touches of yellow and black, which she says are fun yet sophisticated. “Then I introduced the safari element in subtle ways so it doesn’t look too themed,” she explains.
Mr Fox rugs by Scion combined with floor cushions in fabrics by Design Team make a comfortable play space, with a table and chairs from Red Poppies Kids Range for crafts. “As there was space, I included two beds for when friends stay over. Made by Falcon Furniture, they have drawers underneath so toys are accessible and easy to pack away,” she says. For safety, they were built in, with a fixed shelf between them for a lamp from Cabbages & Roses. Michael’s favourite feature is the bush veld wall decal, custom-made by Hello Dolly Designs.
