Vibrant is the perfect word to describe not only the photography of LINDA PREECE, but also the photographer herself.
Although this is the first time I’ve met Linda, her welcoming, open and bubbly personality quickly makes it feel like I’ve know her longer. As we chat, I find out she’s off to Sydney, Australia, in a few days to meet up with her eldest daughter Deborah. They’re travelling together to Malta to discover some of their family heritage, which was always one of their dreams. She’s also finalising a number of commissions, and is off to hang ten of her pieces in a well-known telecommunications company’s office this very evening.
Yet, here she is, just a few hours before, at the weekly gathering of Facebook group Coffee & Chat, which she set up three and a half years ago, meeting and greeting both newcomers to Singapore and regular attendees, with a bright smile and effusive energy.
This energy translates across to her photographic artworks, some of which hang on the walls of the café where we meet, in Tanglin’s Hotel Jen. Among others, there’s a large metallic piece called “Red Joo Chiat Shophouses”, her first commercial foray into Singapore photography. “One evening, while having a glass of wine, I started playing around with a photo I had taken of Joo Chiat, experimenting in an artistic way with vibrant colours. I wanted to give it a pop, I wanted it to be unique. Over the week, I kept adjusting the look and finally I loved what I had created,” she explains.
