The tea industry in Assam has been in turmoil for the last couple of years with annual losses increasing every year for leading companies like TATA Tea and Macleod Russell Tea Company. But, at the same time, quality tea from smaller tea gardens across the State has been racking up record highs at auctions. Tea garden executives are of the opinion that this contradiction is due to the low volume production of quality tea in Assam, and the demand and supply gap. With an aim to boost the industry and regain the old glory, The Tea Room, a tea lounge,
At ‘The Tea Room’ in Guwahati, you can taste different kinds of tea that you didn’t even know existed was launched at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).
An exclusive retail sales counter of authentic Assam Tea, it is also a lounge bar where tea lovers can indulge in brewed tea. Inaugurating the premium tea lounge, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, ‘Promoting tea and setting up a tea tourism concept has always been a dream in Assam. Establishing the tea lounge at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre is an attempt to boost such activities.’ He added, ‘The tea industry in Assam is presently facing extreme crisis situation; although it produces more than 50 percent of the tea that India puts out to the global market every year. Hence, this premium tea lounge is necessary to offer different tea blends and in a way promote the uniqueness of the Assam tea though there are other factors to be addressed.’

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS
People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
