For the first time, auditions were held in the city, giving a platform to new, fresh faces in a case of better late than never.
Although there have been few models from the Northeast who have made a mark nationally and internationally like Ketholeno, Carol and others, the numbers are less considering the fact that Northeastern women are naturally stylish and graceful with striking features. What then is the problem? Many would jump to the conclusion that Northeastern girls don’t get the opportunities they deserve because they are discriminated against but that is not exactly the case. The main issue is not that the industry is against them, many designers and companies are actually looking for Northeastern faces to work with, the problem lies in the fact that our girls hardly get the right kind of exposure.
To right this wrong, Lakmé and IMG Reliance Limited in association with Northeast Fashion & Design Council held model auditions for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016 in Northeast India for the first time last month. Held at Terra Mayaa Restaurant & Lounge in Guwahati, the jury included Atsu Sekhose, celebrated fashion designer; Sonalika Sahay, leading model; Barsha Rani Bishaya, renowned Assamese actress; Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovation, Lakmé and Jaspreet Chandok, Vice President and HeadFashion, IMG Reliance Limited.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS
People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
