Plan, Pack and Explore

If you love to travel then these past few months must have made you quite anxious. While it is not exactly the end of the world to be confined inside the house for a couple weeks, when the weeks extended to months, more and more people wanted to travel somewhere, anywhere, to take their mind off the current situation. But because of the pandemic, it wasn’t possible to travel as most places across the country and the globe restricted tourists from visiting. But now, many places have reopened in order to revive the tourism industry. So, don’t worry too much, pack your bags, take all the safety precautions needed and set off for your next adventure.

Darjeeling

It is one of the most beautiful hill stations, and you can truly savour the winter at Darjeeling. As it is a popular tourist destination, there are many different types of accommodation that you can opt for. There is so much to do in Darjeeling but these are some things that you should definitely not miss out on –

• If you are looking for some peace and calm then make your way to the Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda. It is located among the rolling hills of the Jalapahar area in Darjeeling. Take note that you may not be able to take your car all the way to the pagoda and may need to walk a bit. If you time your visit, then you may be able to witness the chanting and prayers.

• If you want to avoid crowds but still want to go out somewhere nice then pack a lunch and spend time at the Nightingale Park. You can take your time to appreciate the manicured gardens and the musical fountain.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS

People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
