KU ROMILLO IS AN ANGEL WHO PAINTS THE DEVIL WITH SEARING CONVICTION.

Impulsive actions

“It was more of an impulse.”

Young visual artist Ku Romillo is talking about the forces at work in a piece she calls, “Evil Be To Him What Evil Thinks” and by extension, her oeuvre, which she describes as “symbolist” in theme. And how did we become snooty art connoisseurs all of a sudden? It’s just that “Evil”, a painting of a well-endowed baphomet (the goat often associated with Satanism) floating above what seems to be an orgy, suddenly became viral on Facebook with over 30k shares as we write this. That Ku doesn’t look evil herself piqued our interest. Turns out the 27-year-old UST Fine Arts major is one of the most happening artists in her gallery right now, Secret Fresh at RONAC Art Center, and counting among her collectors doctors, celebrities, and one charismatic leader. Strange.

But stranger women enthrall us even more.

Were you ever too afraid to paint something?
