Turn Black, the country’s first all-black fashion label, celebrates style with a sustainable and inclusive approach

When 31-year-old Nutan, the founder of the all-black sustainable fashion label Turn Black got married in 2017, she noticed a change in the way she was expected to dress. In fact, she hardly recognised herself in the mirror in the bright colours and styles that weren’t ‘her.’ You see, she had always been drawn towards darker shades, even owning multiples of the same black T-shirt, and Nutan was confronted with a poignant, existential dilemma, of self-acceptance.

“As much as black has a negative connotation, and seen as dark or evil, it is powerful, strong, and a part of life,” the Delhi-based designer tells Bazaar. Nutan viewed the colour as representing comfort and power, and soon began stitching garments for herself. Her experiments turned into a passion.
