The newly appointed Bottega Veneta creative director, Daniel Lee, makes a triumphant runway debut with a collection that celebrates freedom, self-expression and sensuality for Autumn/Winter ’19. By Mughni Che Din.

Daniel Lee’s CV reads like a fairy tale career in fashion: from his early days at Balenciaga, Maison Margiela, and Donna Karan, to his notable seven-year stint working at Céline under the mentorship of Phoebe Philo, and now the creative director of Bottega Veneta—replacing Tomas Maier after his 17-year tenure with the Italian fashion house. Needless to say, the 32-year-old’s runway debut was one of the most highly anticipated shows at this recent Milan Fashion Week.

While the show was held under a giant clear dome at the historical Arco Della Pace (or “Arch of Peace”, dating back to the 19th century), its ambiance served as the perfect metaphor for what was to come. A demonstration of Italian artisanal heritage, reworked with a modern flair.
