Let It Melt In Your Mouth!

You might just be thinking that this is a new hybrid fruit with an odd name, but it is actually a tropical fruit Malaysians know and love. Better known locally as buah nona, sugar apple or sweetsop, this green knobby fruit has a sweet aroma and taste, coupled with smooth, creamy-textured flesh – think avocado but white! It’s also probably how it got its custard connection.

Although it looks nothing like an apple, the flavourful fruit tastes almost as sweet as one. While the flesh around the skin can be bitter, the best way to enjoy it is to have it raw. Simply cut it in half and scoop out the flesh – add a squeeze of lime juice to it if you like a hint of freshness.

GOOD FOR YOU IN MANY WAYS

Strengthen Your Bones and Joints

Custard apple is packed with vitamin C, which is full of antioxidants. It also has an anti-inflammatory compound that wards off inflammatory ma diseases like arthritis. The fruit can improve the strength of your bones as it is rich in nutrients like magnesium and calcium.

Natural Skincare Aid

Eating custard apple is very beneficial for your skin as the fruit helps in skin rejuvenation. The leaves or paste made out of the flesh has been traditionally used in wound care to improve and hasten the recovery process of infected areas, especially for ulcers. The latex of the fruit can also be a natural salve for skin problems like eczema and inflammation.
