Are Skin Checks Actually Useful?

Ever stared intently at your face in the mirror and wondered what exactly is going on with your skin?

Having lived through the pandemic with mask-wear mandates, which resulted in skin issues such as increased skin sensitivity, maskne and dryness, it’s no wonder we’re prioritising skin health.

To fully understand what your skin is going through though, that’s where skin checks come in. With advancements of technology, we’re also seeing artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) powered apps and tech-enabled devices coming into play. The result: personalised and customised beauty solutions.

According to Skin Inc founder Sabrina Tan: “AI is the ultimate customisation engine, and it’s here to stay. It has grown in its ability to automate and scale personalisation on a global basis, and yet cater to individual needs at the same time.”

But are skin checks really necessary?

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Knowing your skin is the best way to be able to give it what it needs, says a representative for Australian cult skincare brand, Rationale.

However, according to Oliver Worsley, CEO and co-founder of UK-Singapore headquartered biotech start-up Sequential Skin: The vast majority of consumers don't fully understand their skin and what they require.

Ultimately, skin checks give you the chance to know your skin intimately, allowing you to understand what's happening on the surface and even beneath.

According to a representative for Kiehl's, these consultations will help you learn about your skin and its unique needs in a much deeper capacity than what is visible to the naked eye.
