Splish splash! Bath time may be designed to get little ones clean, but for many mums, it’s also an opportunity to calm fussy lil ones during the witching hour. The key to doing so is ensuring that the entire experience is as comfortable as possible — both for mum and for tot! Dr Navneet Kaur, consultant neonatologist and pediatrician, Apollo Cradle, Mumbai shares tips to give your baby a soothing bath.

SET THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE

This is tricky; you need to be very sure about the temperature of water used to bathe your baby. The ideal temperature of the bath water should be 37 degrees Celcius. You can use a thermometer to check the temperature. Don’t use your palm or fingers to check if the water is warm, instead just dip your elbow. If you feel it’s too hot, add cold water to bring the temperature down.

KEEP ALL THINGS READY

Make sure you have the towels in place, the baby soap at your reach, the tub ready, and the bathroom stool (for you to sit on) next to the baby bath before you start. Set the things right before you enter the bathroom with your baby and never leave your tot alone in the tub. Your baby can trip and drown even in water as shallow as 3cm. Also, keep the diaper and the clothes to be worn after the bath ready in your bedroom.
