Is your job satisfying to you? Do you enjoy the tasks? Would you say your job adds to the quality of your life, or do you find yourself tired, stressed, burnt out, even wondering if you will ever be able to accomplish enough and create the life you desire?
Toxic productivity is an unhealthy and extreme obsession with productivity, with no amount of work ever being enough to ease the sense of guilt.
Recent statistics seem to indicate that toxic productivity is increasing. Nearly four in five Australians working from home suffered from burnout last year. The average worker’s overtime increased from 236 hours to 436 hours in 2020.
Australians collectively accumulated $98.6 billion of unpaid overtime in 2020 – the equivalent of seven weeks of full-time work for every worker. Plus, nearly 21 percent felt a greater weight of expectation by their bosses to be more available.
