Grace Tay goes behind the scenes with Bvlgari at its Capri launch of its Cinemagia high jewellery collection, inspired by the glamour of Italian and Hollywood film-making
When Bvlgari puts on a show, it puts on a show. For the global launch of its new Cinemagia high jewellery collection, the Italian house chose picturesque Capri as the backdrop. The first act for guests kicked off on a cool spring evening at
Capri’s most famous square, Piazza Umberto I. There was no one calling out, “Lights, Camera, Action!” – but there was no missing the photo stop, stage props and all, set up to capture the island stretching to the sea and the famous Faraglioni rocks in the background.
A very pleasant stroll down Capri’s cobblestone paths took us to the Bvlgari boutique, where we were greeted with flutes of prosecco and jaunty music by local band Anema e Core. Continuing down a side lane and under arches of lemon tree boughs, a solitary lane led to the 700-year-old Villa Certosa. The courtyards of this Capri landmark, which had been lovingly restored by Bvlgari for this event to be gifted back to the people of the island, had been transformed into an expansive alfresco bar.
The large orange stage on the side was unmissable – its white arch lit with incandescent bulbs, it was the perfect spot for many Insta-moments; with “Cinemagia Backstage” printed on its wall, it teased us with the promise of some spectacle that would emerge.
But first, drinks. Cocktail hour was a feast for the eyes. Was this a film fesstival? There were A-listers galore – top Hollywood billings and Italy’s silver screen stars, all wearing sumptuous creations from the Cinemagia collection.
