Have you ever wondered how even a smile can change the temperature of a room from a chilly unfamiliarity to a degree of friendly warmth? If laughter works wonderfully well for the moment, it also brings in long-term health benefits. The mushrooming laughter clubs around the world vouch for it. Not lagging behind in this arena, the City of Destiny has quite a few clubs that dispense mirth. The founder of MVP Laughter Yoga Club, Mr.C.V.Nageswara Rao asks, “When was the last time you went Ho, Ho, Ha, Ha without any reason? Amidst the hustle-bustle of modern life, people have forgotten the joy of laughing. It is time we got silly, rid of inhibitions and practise chuckles and giggles.” Rao, a Professor in Chemical Engineering, brought with him this happy concept to the city, when he shifted base from Guntur, joining Gayatri Vidya Parishad. We draw a few details from him in a fun-filled chat. Of course, he peppers it with a few laugh-inducing tricks.
Inception
I was the member of a Humour Club in Guntur. We used to meet, share jokes and laugh. But when I moved here, my desire to take the module to the next level became strong. I was greatly influenced by Dr.Madan Kataria, the founder of the International Laughter Club movement. According to Kataria, we don't laugh because we are happy, but we are happy because we laugh. Hence, he has propagated voluntary laughter that provides physiological and psychological benefits. Walking in his footsteps, I went about gathering like-minded people.
Eligibility
It is never too late to start a good deed and we put no tag for the task. So, anyone is welcome to join us. Our club, which is registered with the Laughter Yoga International, has 30 pro-active members now. It is exhilarating to see people of all ages greeting each other with a good smile which builds into a great laughter as the minutes pass.
