Contemporary furnishings and natural woods pair harmoniously in this Zen-like bachelor’s den by DESIGN REBIRTH
WHEN IT COMES TO THE DESIGN OF THEIR DREAM homes, some homeowners know exactly what they want and communicate a very specific vision to their interior designer. For this new condominium apartment in Bedok, however, there was much more freedom in the brief. “The client came to us one year before getting the keys, seeking ideas to explore what can be done to the apartment in terms of interior design,” says Victor Loh, co-founder and design director of Design Rebirth. “He simply left it to us to pitch ideas.”
Essential Features
The client’s only requirements were to integrate two furniture pieces he had already purchased: a white oak Shoji console with linen screen doors by Canadian designers Mjolk and Studio Junction, and a black walnut sideboard with red cedar doors by Phloem Studio. “These two pieces of furniture became the starting block,” Loh says. The design team took cues from the items to fashion a palette of warm neutral tones and wood grains, punctuated with stark black for a masculine touch.
