Christal Leung, founder of Hong Kong beauty brands Skin Need and BYOB, explains why individuality is important in beauty routines

Christal Leung listens to her skin rather than dictates to it. “Skin is a dynamic organ that’s constantly changing every day,” she says. “It’s important to adjust your routines based on its current condition.”

Leung is the brains behind Hong Kong skincare brand Skin Need, and is a cosmetic chemist with more than 10 years of experience in the industry as well as a personal experience with acne. She knows how crucial it is to note those changing conditions. “It’s impossible to believe that a product you use on a daily basis is ideal for your skin day by day, month by month, when the skin is prone to changes internally and externally,” she says. “To curate a routine that can evolve with the changing needs of your skin, you need to take external factors into consideration—think pollution, temperature and humidity—and use products that can target your unique skincare concerns. There’s no one size fits all when it comes to skincare.”
