In spite of being in the film industry for over two decades, Julianne Moore is still a highly-sought-after actress and she’s nowhere jaded of with career
Julianne Moore is as sweet, charming, and funny as anyone you would care to meet. She smiles easily and is genuinely happy to talk about her work and her private life. At 56, she’s working more than ever as part of a non-stop string of outstanding performances that few actresses in history could ever match. This year alone, she has three major films set for release – Wonder struck, directed by Todd Haynes, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, in which she plays the arch villain, and then Suburbicon, a drama directed by George Clooney that co-stars Matt Damon.
Wonderstruck, which made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, marks yet another powerful collaboration with indie filmmaker Todd Haynes who previously directed her in Far From Heaven, I’m Not There, and Safe. Ironically, the latter film helped kickstart her career and was originally presented as part of the Director’s Fortnight at the 1995 Cannes festival.
“The first film I did with Todd was a tiny independent film, Safe, which cost less than a million dollars; that was my first big role,” Moore said. “This is my fourth film with him. He has played such an important part in my career.”
Based on the eponymous 2011 Brian Selznick young adult novel, Wonderstruck follows a young girl’s quest to pursue her idol – silent film actress Lillian Mayhew, one of two roles that Moore plays in the film. Moore took inspiration for her performance from legendary actress, Lillian Gish, and her work in two seminal 1928 films, The Wind and The Crowd. Slated for release in September, Wonderstruck is already being touted as an early Oscar contender.
