Renowned Vocalist Vandana Nirankari Has Found Bliss Through Her Music. She Gives the Sindhian a Peek Into Her Life as a Performer

At the age of three, Vandana Nirankari began accompanying her grandfather to Sunday satsangs. He urged her to sing as a way of expressing her love for the Gods, and she took to his encouragement wholeheartedly. By the time she turned five, she was singing in tune, with a blossoming love for the art.

She grew up being mesmerised by her father’s melodious voice, which has had a significant impact on her career. “Some people are chosen by God; they just sing to see people happy. My father is one of them. I wouldn’t say that my family has ‘supported’ my choice, but that they have ‘gifted’ my career to me.”

A gift it sure is. The self-trained singer has received national acclaim for her tuneful performances in semi classical, folk, ghazal, Bollywood and bhajan styles, and this is only the beginning. A popular feature at Sindhi community and spiritual events across the country, this young singer produces her own music and has also collaborated with Pakistani band, The Sketches, for a folk and sufi song.
