In 2015, after getting her daughters married off, Aruna Devi Rajaratnam, a housewife, received many compliments for her sarees she wore from her friends and family . That’s when her brainchild “Shringaram” was born. It all started with a Facebook page and a stock of just 10 sarees. The adventurous housewife, along with her family, travels to every nook and corner of the country to handpick various weaves personally. Her passion and dedication are the main ingredients behind the success of Shringaram. Samyuktha Jayanty had a chat with Mrs Aruna Devi Rajaratnam regarding her transition into the retail world.As I wait for Mrs Rajaratnam , I was greeted by the courteous staff, friendly atmosphere and classy ambience.
What is your professional background and how did you get into this field ?
I’ve been a homemaker for 35 years. My husband is into wholesale fabric business, from the age of 16. He was very supportive when I told him that I wanted to start my own business, and has been the biggest pillar of Shringaram in terms of support.
What sets your store apart from others?
Every store has it’s own uniqueness, so I can’t say this is better or that is. I would say the uniqueness of our store is our experimentation. We source the materials that are not available in the local market, and make it reachable to the people at an affordable price. Any customer of ours can vouch for us, that we are very committed in terms of pricing. We design, and source our sarees in such a way that a saree looks much more expensive than its actual price.
How do you keep your stores’ inventory up to date?
