The best thing about being a writer is that you can go to lots of parties and call it ‘research’. Generally, you know you’ve been to a good bash when you wake up in an unfamiliar nation with nipple jewellery. For me, socialising is as natural as breathing. But, if you find it tricky, here are my top mingling tips...
1 AVOIDING SOCIAL SIBERIA
When you enter a room and don’t know anyone, never loiter at the door. Select the most boisterous group and insinuate yourself into the conversation by saying, “You’re clearly the most fabulous people here. So, what have I missed?” Or, wear a conversation piece – a themed dress, a tiara – anything to help kick-start the badinage. Soon you’ll be lobbing banter back and forth in the Wimbledon of wit.
