Bargain blades don’t usually appeal to the editor, but this is different.

Over recent years, I’ve found myself using fixed-blade knives more and more because any locking knife can be considered illegal in public, so if you need to lock it in the boot as you set off shooting, you might as well carry a full-sized, fixed blade. I tend to carry my knife in a rucksack or a bum bag, so size isn’t an issue as I hunt. I’ve used Frost and Mora knives for years because they’re as simple as can be, yet work beautifully and are as cheap as chips, with even the best ones costing around £15. It seems that Alpina planned to offer something similar to get into that market place with this Ancho model.
