A cricketer was branded talented but he was a spoiled brat from the starting. He made bowlers look ordinary on his day and lost his cool on the other day. The world was going upside down for him and there were calls to end his career before the actual time frame. The calls shook his inner self and the legend was born on that day. He is none other than David Warner of Australia. He had a habit of opening his mouth too often but now he is now doing all the talking with his bat at the moment. The man has become an inspirational leader and is making his performance count for the team. In the recently concluded tour of Sri Lanka, Steve Smith, the regular captain of Australia across formats, was suddenly asked to back to the home nation in order to take rest. The team had played the Test series and three ODIs by then against the home team. David Warner was given the responsibility to lead the side in the remaining assignments and boy he led from the front. The Aussie team won the last two one-day internationals thus winning the series 4-1 and blanked the Lankan team 2-0 in the two-match T20 series. He had a poor Test series but played well in the limited overs fixtures despite leading the side. The question has popped up again about making him the leader of the side as far as shorter formats are concerned. If we look back at the last edition of the Indian Premier League, the question on Warner’s captaincy would have a perfect answer. He played the most important role in leading his side Sunrisers Hyderabad to the title. He not only captained them perfectly but also scored more than 800 runs in the competition. It was his batting which won several games single handedly for the side.
