The 2016 season provided plenty of good and bad moments for the Raiders.

Best, Worst Of 2016 Season

Making the playoffs for the first time in 14 years clearly stands out at the top, while Derek Carr’s season-ending broken leg clearly qualifies as the worst.

The year provided fans with many other memorable and not-so-memorable highlights while their beloved team worked its way back to respectability. While it would be difficult to detail each of those high and low moments, Silver and Black Illustrated has compiled a short list of some of the ones that stood out most to us in 2016.

Predictably, the good far outweighed the bad even if the season ended with a thud. That in itself bodes well for the future.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Carr to Crabtree for two: Head coach Jack Del Rio made a gutsy call after the Raiders scored in the final moments of their Week 1 game in New Orleans when he decided to go for two points and the win rather than settling for a PAT and going into overtime. It was a risky move because there was no way Oakland was getting the ball back again. Derek Carr, showing the poise and calmness that has helped him become one of the top quarterbacks in the game, never flinched as he dropped back and threw a perfect fade pass to Michael Crabtree, who leaped over the defender to haul in the catch. That catapulted the Raiders to a 35-34 road win. More importantly, Del Rio’s decision to go for two set the tone for the entire season.

Gruden feeling the heat?

Gruden feeling the heat?

“I know there is a big bull’s-eye on my chest, certainly. If the people want to use that as an incentive, then so be it. I worked for Al Davis in 1998. That was pressure. I was 34 years old. I’ve dealt with pressure before. I don’t really feel pressure. I love the excitement and thrill of competing, and I can’t worry about things I can’t control in that regard. I know people will want to step on me and beat me, and that is just the way this league is.”
