Virgin Atlantic A330-300 Upper Class

BACKGROUND

Virgin Atlantic has retrofitted all 10 of its A330-300s Upper Class cabins with new seats. The 31-seat cabin has two less seats than before and the 1-2-1 configuration has been replaced by 1-1-1 (11 seats down the middle and 10 either side) so they all offer direct aisle access. Together with the retrofit cabins, Virgin is spending £300 million developing a fully wifi fleet and new website.

CHECK-IN

It was interesting to see LHR Terminal 3 in a less-harried light. You pass through a gate to a grand-looking premium entrance (open to Delta premium passengers too), present your bags to drop/passport scans and walk around the corner to a dedicated security lane which brings you out by the economy masses. It was smooth but a touch clinical – not until I walked through duty free and up the steps to the clubhouse did anyone smile and greet me.
