LOCALS are being encouraged to attend a public meeting in Feeny tonight (Tuesday) to discuss the future of Banagher Community Playgroup.
The meeting has been organised by the playgroup’s committee who are hoping to safeguard the group from closure over the coming year.
Banagher Community Playgroup was founded in the late 1980s for pre-school children living in Feeny and the broader Banagher area.
A total of 15 children currently attend the playgroup in its purpose built unit which was opened in Beechmount in Feeny in May 1997.
Fears for the playgroup’s future have been growing however due to a cut in funding and diminishing numbers.
The playgroup is now seeking the support of locals and is calling on them to attend tonight’s meeting to discuss ideas and fundraising options.
Banagher Community Playgroup currently receives most of its funding from the PSEP from the Department of Education in this year this funding is equated to approximately £46 per child, per week.
