Kennedy set to make Derry debut against Coleraine.
AS Charlton Athletic’s seven game unbeaten run came to an end against Oldham on Tuesday night, one of the club’s top goal scorers was leaving to return to his home town club.
The Addicks’ senior team are struggling in the lower reaches of League One this season, with a poor return of just 37 goals in 30 games. Their U23s have had no such problem however, with Mikhail Kennedy leading the charge with seven goals in his last three games alone.
That kind of form has not gone unnoticed, but despite that, first team manager Karl Robinson has opted to send the 20-year-old out on loan.
Having briefly broken into the first team last season, Kennedy was hoping to get another opportunity to impress, and he admitted that he is disappointed that it didn’t happen this time around.
“I’m not going to lie. I’m gutted that I didn’t get a chance this year, because I’m the top scorer in the entire club at the minute, ” he explained. “But the manager has been brilliant with me and he’s spoken to me and once he heard about this, he said it’s what I need and to go out and get the experience I need and really push on then.”
