As the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election is approaching in the state, things are getting interesting as all Political Parties are gearing up for the electoral battle. With the rise of more than one regional parties like Raijor Dol and Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and a submissive regional party like Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the election is providing different regional perspective to the people of Assam. A confident but issueless Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and a confused Congress-led alliance are also adding to the cloudy scenario of the election.
The 2021Assam Legislative Assembly election is the 15th quinquennial legislative assembly election scheduled to be held in the state from March 27 to April 6 in three phases, to elect 126 MLAs to the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly.
In Phase-I, A total numbers of 47 assembly constituencies will go to polls while in PhaseII, voting for 39 number of seats will take place in the state. On the other hand, in the third phase, 40 assembly constituencies will go to polls. The results for the State Assembly Election will be announced on May 2.
In this Assembly election, a total numbers of 13 Political Parties are participating besides, numerous Independent candidates.
The main electoral battle will be fought between the BJP lead Alliance and the Congress lead Alliance which is called Mahajot. BJP along with AGP and United People's Party Liberal forms the Mitrojot Alliance. The BJP has replaced the Bodoland People's Front ( BPF) with its rival United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), which hardly had any presence in the last elections. Now, the BPF has joined the mahajot this time. Recently, in the Bodoland Territorial Council election (BTC) council election, UPPL and BJP alliance formed the government.
