AITOR Karanka’s plea for his Birmingham players to show character after their worst display of the season was answered at Ashton Gate.
The head coach held a Friday team meeting after describing the 2-1 midweek home defeat by Barnsley as the most concerning since he took charge.
Karanka made five changes and watched with increasing satisfaction as his team dominated the second half against Bristol City.
Harlee Dean’s header from an 80th-minute Jeremie Bela corner earned the points.
Karanka said: “What I stressed most at the team meeting was that the players needed to have the confidence to express themselves.
“There wasn’t a lot that needed to be said. I have a very good group of players if they believe in themselves and show the right character.
“That wasn’t the case against Barnsley, but today the performance was so different in every way.
