Attwood, 33 and a single father, is currently locked in talks with the Rugby Players’ Association and Premiership Rugby over providing childcare allowances for players who are struggling to juggle rugby with bringing up their kids.
Attwood explained to The Rugby Paper: “With Boris Johnson’s announcement that elite sport will continue for the good of the nation in respect of emotional support and entertainment for families who are locked up, there is obviously a degree where elite sport is being subsidised by the government to do so because that is deemed to be in the public interest.
“There’s an expectation on professional sports people to go to work.
“I could obviously say to (Bristol DoR) Pat Lam, ‘Sorry Pat, I’m not coming to work today because I’ve got to look after my kids because they can’t go to school’ and I’m sure he would be incredibly accommodating.
“But when my contract is up for renewal in a few months’ time, it would be ludicrous to suggest that would not create some form of bias, unconscious or otherwise.
