Higher Christmas Lights? That's Step Too Far For Health And Safety Chiefs

A Town's Christmas tree has only its bottom half lit up – because health and safety officials claim it is too dangerous to reach the top half.

The partially decorated pine was slammed by residents – and one councillor, leading the backlash, dubbed it “the worst in the North”.

Calderdale Council, the authority responsible for lighting the festive fir in Bailiff Bridge, West Yorks, said the natural tree had grown “significantly larger”, meaning it would be risky to try reaching its upper half.

But Tory councillor George Robinson spoke out for furious locals who had been hoping for a more joyful sight.
