News At 60: I'll Not Do Job Much Longer Reveals Huw

Newsreader Huw Edwards says he’s considering quitting his role as the anchor of the BBC News at Ten.

The Welsh journalist, who turns 60 tomorrow, said the time had come to move aside and let others “have a chance”, having fronted the late-evening bulletin since 2003.

He also admitted to being “angry” at seeing his pay reduced by up to £170,000 in recent years.

He said: “I believe that a time comes when you’re bound to re-assess what’s in front of you. And now that a big milestone is here, which is 60 years old, it’s natural for a man to think, ‘Am I going to continue in this job for another five years or do I want to do something different?’

“The nightly news business, after 20 years, that can be taxing, even though I still enjoy the job. But I don’t think I’ll be doing that for long. Because I believe that, in the first place, I think it’s fair for the viewers to get a change.
