YESTERDAY was the second anniversary of ominous reports that told of the emergence of mystery virus infecting people in Wuhan, China.
Oh boy, do those two past years now feel like an eternity.
The coronavirus has upended everything. Even now, two years on, we still don't know how, when or even, to be blunt, whether the pandemic will end.
Last autumn, for example, there were some very hopeful signs that infections were declining significantly. And then Omicron emerged.
Omicron is, of course, far more infectious than the previous forms of Covid-19. On Sunday, 137,583 new people reported a positive test result meaning there were a total of 1,110,159 cases in the previous seven days. These numbers are huge and rising - 43.1 per cent up on the previous week.
Globally, there have been almost three billion cases of Covid. But experts predict that within the next few weeks there will be a further three billion, such is Omicron's potency.
