The study used identical twins to compare veganism with diets that include all forms of meat, dairy and other animal products.

It found going vegan improves overall cardiovascular health, with the majority of positive change noted in the first four weeks after a plant-based diet is taken up.

The vegans in the study ended up with significantly lower cholesterol, insulin and body weight than the omnivores.
