Brits are breaking out to enjoy a baking bank holiday at the beach after weeks of rain and months of lockdown.

Thousands of trippers flocked to beaches yesterday to enjoy the sunshine.

The Met Office says today looks even hotter with expected highs of 25C.

Forecaster Becky Mitchell said: “We could potentially get to the hottest day of the year.”

And the good news is it will stay fine all week, with top temperatures of 28C.

MISERABLE May will bow out with a burn today as Britain is expected to bake in temperatures of 25C on the hottest day of the year so far.

It will round off a hot, sunny bank holiday weekend that had weather-weary stay cationers heading for the beaches, parks and pub gardens.

In Dorset, people packed the beach in Lyme Regis from 10am, the roads in and out of the resort clogged up throughout the day.

There were similar scenes in Bournemouth, where thousands of day-trippers descended on the beach.

Forecasters at the Met Office warned people to slap on plenty of sun cream as UV light levels will be high or very high today – which could be hotter than Benidorm, forecast to be just 24C.

Met Office forecaster Becky Mitchell said: “Our previous high of 24.5C was recorded on March 30 at Kew Gardens. We are expecting highs of 25C, so the warmest day of the year so far.”
