FIRST POINT OF CONTACT

SUPER LEAGUE clubs could bypass Premier Leaguestyle socially-distanced training and move straight into contact work.

The plan is part of recommendations made by the sport’s medical experts, who have been in contact with their NRL counterparts in Australia after they resumed playing last month.

A clinical advisory group made up of experts from across rugby league’s three professional competitions has held detailed talks over the process of returning to training ahead of a planned August restart.

That could involve skipping or minimising the stage one training outlined in the government guidelines for elite sport, which would aid clubs’ financial positions as they bring players out of furlough.
