Conor McGregor boasted “you need people like me” hours after he was carried out on a stretcher after suffering a leg injury during UFC 264 in Las Vegas.
UFC president Dana White said the Dubliner broke his lower tibia in his left shin while fighting against lightweight rival Dustin Poirier.
The father of three started aggressively by targeting the American with kicks, but he quickly capitalized after hearing McGregor’s leg crack during one exchange.
Poirier, 32, took his opponent to the ground, where he dominated before the fighters returned to their feet.
Both swung and missed, and McGregor stepped back before his leg collapsed beneath him. He somehow survived until the end of the round when the bout was stopped.
