Last Saturday, a Haryana Police special task force team nabbed 35-year-old dreaded gangster Raju Basodi from the Indira Gandhi International Airport while he was returning from Thailand. Basodi was operating extortion rackets from the Southeast Asian country while being in constant touch with currently imprisoned gang lords like Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra.
So here is an instance of gangsters continuing to unleash terror in the National Capital Region from behind bars by appointing a ‘chief operating officer’ or ‘business manager'. And most of these Basodi-like ‘managers’ operate from countries like Thailand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Jordan and Kenya – gleefully evading Indian law enforcement agencies.
Another such ‘COO,’ Naresh Sethi, carried out a Bollywood-style strike on a prison van ferrying gangsters from Bhondsi Jail on the Gurugram-Faridabad expressway, accompanied by nine accomplices. In the attack which took place this month, two gangsters — Sandeep alias Kala and Dhan Singh alias Kaju — managed to escape. The police arrested Sethi along with three others following a fierce encounter.
